Warren Sneed served as the Director of Jazz Studies at Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, Texas  from the Fall of 2000 through the Spring of 2024. An HSPVA alumnus, he has a Master’s degree in Applied Music from the University of Houston and a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Education from the University of North Texas where he played saxophone in the One O’Clock Lab Band. 

Prior to teaching at HSPVA, Mr. Sneed directed various jazz bands and taught Improvisation and Jazz History at the University of Houston and Houston Community College. Sneed is a past President of the Texas Jazz Educators Association (2019) and served as the Jazz Coordinator for Texas Music Educators Association Region 23 from 2008 to 2024. 

Sneed is still very active in the Houston music scene and has performed a wide variety of musical styles from jazz to pop and classical. He has performed in jazz duos, trios, quartets, musicals, variety bands, and the Houston Symphony Pops. Sneed’s performance credits include the Houston Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz Houston Orchestra, Larry Slezak’s Sax No End, Louis Hayes, Ed Shaughnessy, Freddie Hubbard, Doc Cheatham, Kenny Wheeler, Carl Fontana, Rosemary Clooney, Bob Dorough, Roseanna Vitro, Todd Coolman, Jimmy Haslip, Mitch Watkins, Helen Sung, Dennis Dotson, Dave Catney, Joe LoCascio, Pamela York, Tianna Hall & the Houston Jazz Band, Grisha Alexiev’s Textet (featuring Diana Herold) and many others.  

Sneed was inducted into the DocFest Hall of Fame in March 2024 and in Februrary 2025 was inducted into the Texas Jazz Educators Asscociation (TJEA) Hall of Fame.
